Shared phone line
Your computer connects to broadband in a very similar way as it does to dial-up – by linking to the internet via a modem. It is just the broadband technology behind the scenes that changes.
No matter what technology you use, the broadband connection allows you to make telephone calls at the same time as being on the internet. So using the web will never prevent you from making a phone call and vice versa.
This is useful when you want to look at the same website as the person you are talking to on the phone.
If you happen to have an extra phone line for the internet, you can consider giving it up. It also means you need have no fears about missing important calls when you are using the internet.
A broadband connection can also support more than one computer. So you can connect all the computers in the house to the internet through the same connection at the same time - and still leave the phone free.
