Broadband provides a high-speed connection to the web that, for most users, is always on when your computer is on. This higher level of access to the Internet leaves your computer more vulnerable to unauthorised access from unknown users because the internet is, in turn, always connected to your computer.

To protect your hard drive you need to install a firewall. A firewall acts like a security guard on your computer, monitoring inbound and outbound traffic and stopping any unauthorised access. Talk to your ISP about what firewall they recommend, when and how to install it.
